Castiglioncello: il borgo dal fascino eterno tra storia, natura, mare e turismo consapevole

Castiglioncello, la Perla del Tirreno, continua ad incantare viaggiatori provenienti da ogni parte del mondo, col suo borgo adagiato sulla Costa degli Etruschi, in Toscana: un luogo dal fascino senza tempo e che, perciò, offre un’esperienza unica in cui storia, natura, mare e cultura si intrecciano in perfetta armonia.
Già nel 1841 Emanuele Repetti descriveva questo meraviglioso borgo marinaro come “loco privilegiato, da cui lo sguardo abbraccia tutta la costa: dal Montenero di Livorno al Promontorio dell’Argentario…”.
In effetti, ancor oggi Castiglioncello appare come un vero e proprio gioiello, con le sue scogliere a picco sul mare, le sue baie riparate e le pinete rigogliose: scorci spettacolari che catturano il cuore dei visitatori di tutto il mondo, finanche adottandoli, perché chi ha avuto occasione di visitarli non può non tornarvi ancora.
Perché Castiglioncello, a differenza di molte altre località costiere, ha saputo conservare nel tempo un’atmosfera incontaminata, grazie anche alla sua posizione appartata, lontana dalle grandi vie di comunicazione. Ed è proprio questa caratteristica ad aver permesso al borgo di mantenere intatto il suo fascino naturale.
Castiglioncello è divenuta celebre negli anni ’60, quando divi del cinema come Alberto Sordi, Luchino Visconti, Marcello Mastroianni e Franco Zeffirelli l’hanno scelta come luogo di vacanza ma, prima ancora, di ispirazione: proprio qui, pertanto, si trovano ancor oggi le loro ville e dimore storiche, ora trasformate in eleganti alberghi che continuano ad attrarre turisti in cerca di suggestioni d’altri tempi.
…Villa La Prora, ad esempio, un tempo di proprietà di Mastroianni, è stata persino set cinematografico del film La leggenda di una voce, dedicato a Enrico Caruso; la splendida Godilonda, invece, è stata la residenza di Gabriele D’Annunzio ed è oggi un prestigioso hotel.
Ma Castiglioncello è stata finanche teatro di scene iconiche di film, quali Il Sorpasso di Dino Risi: un’opera che ha contribuito a cementarne l’immagine nel mito italiano.
La bellezza di Castiglioncello tuttavia va ben oltre le memorabili rappresentazioni cinematografiche e la presenza di divi: impossibile infatti dimenticare la sua storia e le sue origini etrusche, in cui erano già presenti le rosse scogliere che ancor oggi incorniciano stabilimenti balneari e calette.
Non è un caso, dunque, che, al fine di mantenere viva cotanta meraviglia, molti giovani imprenditori locali, con passione e dedizione, abbiano deciso di proseguire proprio qui le attività avviate dai loro antenati.
La dott.ssa Giulia Martini ad esempio, erede della storica Villa Giulietta, che racconta dell’esistenza di “passioni che non si possono dimenticare, come l’amore per la propria terra ed il proprio mare…”.
Un amore che ha, indubbiamente, provato la sua stessa nonna, Donna Giulia, a cui è dedicata la moderna ed elegante struttura ricettiva presso la quale l’intera famiglia Martini è presente ancor oggi. Invero con progetti sempre più moderni, adatti ad incastonarsi al meraviglioso luogo, nel pieno rispetto del passato ma, al contempo, con uno sguardo rivolto al presente, o per meglio dire al futuro, visto che ogni scelta tiene conto in primis della sostenibilità e del rispetto dell’ambiente.
Un sentimento d’amore, quindi, verso l’intero borgo di Castiglioncello: che si tratti di natura, boschi, mare, storia ed altro ancora.
Un sentimento condiviso finanche da chi non è originario del luogo ma lo ha conosciuto in modo del tutto casuale, non avendo alcuna esitazione ad investirvi la stessa vita, con l’avvio della gestione di ristoranti, hotel e stabilimenti, sempre con un occhio rivolto al futuro e l’altro alla tradizione. Quindi ad un turismo sostenibile.
Del resto, è impossibile non amare un borgo tanto suggestivo, con la vista di Punta Righini, del porto turistico di Rosignano, della Pineta Marradi. E, ancora, delle molte ville e Castelli, come Castello Pasquini, centro culturale di riferimento.
Dulcis in fundo, come dimenticare la maestosa Villa Parisi, iscritta al Registro delle Dimore Storiche di Eccellenza, con la sua vista mozzafiato sul Golfo di Castiglioncello e, oggi, finanche sede di matrimoni civili a dir poco indimenticabili, visto l’affaccio diretto sul mare e l’immensa distesa di verde circostante il luogo.
…Una location la cui bellezza non si esaurisce nei panorami ma è essa stessa fonte inesauribile d’ispirazione, non solo per artisti, scrittori e poeti bensì per ognuno… Nessuno escluso!
Dunque, un borgo amato non solo dai locali ma finanche da chi proviene da altre città e regioni d’Italia.
Perché “è grazie ai suoi colori e profumi, che si fondono con le luci e gli aromi del Mediterraneo, che Castiglioncello si rivela in tutta la sua bellezza, donandola a chiunque vi giunga, come è accaduto, in modo del tutto casuale a me, oltre dieci anni fa…”: con queste parole la Dott.ssa Francesca Morosi rivela, nella sua intervista, i sentimenti per Villa Parisi che, oramai considera la sua “creatura”, alla quale si dedica con dedizione e amore, per renderla “oltremodo perfetta…”.
…Un borgo marinaro che, per la limpidezza del mare, continua ad essere premiato con la Bandiera Blu, “per la qualità delle acque e dei servizi…”; al contempo offrendo uno scenario ideale per surfisti e diportisti nautici, nonché per circoli ed agenzie che si occupano di organizzare escursioni verso le vicine Isole dell’Arcipelago Toscano… L’Elba, il Giglio e Giannutri, facilmente raggiungibili.
Da ultimo, come dimenticare la vicinanza delle più grandi città d’arte del Bel Paese: Firenze, Pisa, Lucca, Siena e, addirittura, la Capitale: un ulteriore appeal per eleggere tale destinazione a luogo di vacanza e relax.
Indubbiamente questi i motivi che rendono Castiglioncello così amato: un borgo di cui è impossibile non preservare l’identità, altresì valorizzandone la storia e il patrimonio, con massima sensibilità ed estrema cura.
…Un borgo spettacolare, sì antico ma, al tempo stesso, moderno che, proprio grazie a cotante scelte, è divenuto motore di un turismo sostenibile che punta alla qualità, all’autenticità e al rispetto del territorio.
…Un borgo che, grazie agli investimenti di questi giovani imprenditori, non è più solo la “Perla del Tirreno” ma esempio virtuoso di come tradizione ed innovazione possano convivere, così continuando ad attrarre viaggiatori di ogni età e, invero, di ogni parte del mondo.

Castiglioncello, known as the Pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea, continues to enchant travelers from all over the world with its picturesque village nestled along Tuscany’s Etruscan Coast a timeless place offering a unique experience where history, nature, the sea, and culture intertwine in perfect harmony.
As early as 1841, historian Emanuele Repetti described this marvelous coastal village as a “privileged spot, from which the eye embraces the entire coast: from Montenero in Livorno to the Argentario Promontory…”.
Indeed, Castiglioncello still appears today as a true gem, with its dramatic cliffs overlooking the sea, secluded bays, and lush pine forests spectacular views that captivate visitors from around the world, and in many cases, win their hearts completely. Those who visit once often return, feeling adopted by this magical place.
Unlike many other coastal destinations, Castiglioncello has preserved its unspoiled atmosphere, thanks in part to its secluded location, away from major roads and transit routes. This very isolation has allowed the village to retain its natural beauty and authentic charm.
Castiglioncello gained widespread fame in the 1960s, when film legends like Alberto Sordi, Luchino Visconti, Marcello Mastroianni, and Franco Zeffirelli chose it not only as a vacation spot but also as a source of inspiration. Their historic residences, still found in the area, have since been converted into elegant hotels that continue to attract visitors seeking a taste of vintage charm.
Villa La Prora, for example once owned by Mastroianni was used as the set for the film La leggenda di una voce, dedicated to Enrico Caruso. Meanwhile, the stunning Godilonda villa was once the residence of Gabriele D’Annunzio and is now a prestigious hotel.

Among them is Dr. Giulia Martini, heir to the historic Villa Giulietta, who speaks of “passions that cannot be forgotten, like the love for one’s land and sea…”.
A love deeply felt by her grandmother, Donna Giulia, to whom the modern and elegant hospitality structure is dedicated. The entire Martini family continues to be actively involved, with ever-evolving projects designed to blend seamlessly with the surrounding beauty respecting the past while looking to the future, always prioritizing sustainability and environmental care.

And last but not least, how could one forget the majestic Villa Parisi, listed in the Register of Historic Homes of Excellence. With its breathtaking view of the Gulf of Castiglioncello, it now even serves as a venue for unforgettable civil weddings, thanks to its sea-facing terrace and vast surrounding greenery.
A location whose beauty extends far beyond the view—it is itself an endless source of inspiration not only for artists, writers, and poets, but for anyone… absolutely anyone.
This village is loved not just by locals but by people from across Italy.
As Dr. Francesca Morosi shared in her interview, speaking of Villa Parisi, “Thanks to its colors and scents, which blend with the light and aromas of the Mediterranean, Castiglioncello reveals its full beauty to anyone who arrives here, as happened to me completely by chance over ten years ago…”. She now considers the villa her “creation,” to which she devotes herself with care and love to make it “absolutely perfect.”
This seaside village, with its crystal-clear waters, continues to receive the Blue Flag award for “the quality of its waters and services…”, while also offering the perfect setting for surfers, sailors, and excursion agencies that organize boat trips to the nearby Tuscan Archipelago islands Elba, Giglio, and Giannutri, all within easy reach.
And how could one overlook Castiglioncello’s proximity to Italy’s greatest art cities: Florence, Pisa, Lucca, Siena, and even Rome yet another reason to choose this destination for vacation and relaxation.
These are just some of the many reasons that make Castiglioncello so beloved a village whose identity must be protected and whose history and heritage deserve to be valued with the utmost care and sensitivity.
